Ger Duijzings is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Regensburg and Principal Investigator at the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies. His research explores anthropological aspects of dark emotions in conflict zones, ethno-demographic engineering, and post-war societies. Previously, he served as Reader in Anthropology of Eastern Europe at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
His research focuses on the anthropological significance of dark emotions like anger, hatred, and resentment in conflict regions, particularly examining ethno-religious tensions in Kosovo and Bosnia. He investigates how these emotions influence historical events and social dynamics, drawing from psychoanalytic frameworks by Melanie Klein and Jacques Lacan.
Duijzings has conducted extensive research on the Srebrenica massacre as part of the NIOD Institute's official inquiry, examining local war dynamics and post-war identity reconstruction. His urban studies work explores post-socialist transformations in Bucharest using innovative interdisciplinary methodologies.
