Georgia Gregoriou

Dr. Georgia Gregoriou is a Professor of Physiology at the University of Crete Medical School and Collaborating Researcher at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH). Her research examines the neural mechanisms of perceptual and cognitive functions, particularly how attention modulates neural activity across cortical networks.

Her work focuses on the temporal structure of neuronal activity and its role in forming functional networks during attention tasks. Recent publications investigate how prefrontal and parietal cortices encode attentional priorities and control distraction through diverse neuronal activity patterns.

Dr. Gregoriou's laboratory employs electrophysiological recording techniques in primate models to study long-range neural coupling and synchronization during cognitive tasks. Her research has demonstrated how high-frequency oscillations facilitate communication between prefrontal and visual cortical areas during attention.
