Georgia Aitaki is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University, Sweden. She specializes in critical perspectives on popular culture, focusing on television fiction, reality TV, animation, and cultural journalism. Her research examines television geographies, mobilities, and ethical entertainment questions. She holds a PhD from the University of Gothenburg (2018), with a dissertation on Greek television fiction during societal crises, which was nominated for an FSMK award. Previously, she taught at Gothenburg University, Örebro University, and others.
Her academic service includes roles as substitute member of the management team at Karlstad University’s Centre for Geomedia Studies and Managing Editor of VIEW: Journal of European Television History & Culture. She earned an MA from the University of Glasgow and an MLitt from the University of Groningen.
Research interests include Greek television authorship, crisis representation, queer/nostalgia commodification in streaming platforms, and media industry localization. Her work has been published in NECSUS, Screen, and Media, Culture & Society. Notable projects include analyses of Maestro in Blue’s global exportability and Bonde söker fru’s white mobilities narratives.
