Professor Georges Grau is a leading academic in vascular immunology at the University of Sydney's School of Medical Sciences, Department of Pathology. His roles include Chair of Vascular Immunology and membership in the University of Sydney Nano Institute and Charles Perkins Centre. His career spans decades with positions at institutions like the Université de la Méditerranée and research fellowships at the WHO Centre and University of Geneva.
Research focuses on immunopathology of microvascular lesions, particularly cerebral malaria, septic shock, and multiple sclerosis. Key areas include endothelial-cell immune interactions, with recent work on neurovascular lesions in cerebral malaria using co-culture models. His studies employ in vivo and in vitro systems, clinical observations, and extracellular vesicle analysis.
Current research students include Jemma Fenwick (thrombo-inflammation), Linda Lin (blood-brain barrier pathologies), and Drishya Mainali (extracellular vesicles in multiple sclerosis). Collaborations involve Bosch Institute and Sydney Nano facilities.
