George Zhou is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor, specializing in international education and cross-cultural pedagogy. His research focuses on culturally diverse student experiences, with particular emphasis on international students' integration, microaggressions in academic settings, and reciprocal learning programs between Canada and China. He has co-authored a textbook on teaching strategies for linguistically and culturally diverse students and led multiple studies on refugee students' educational challenges.
Key research areas include: international student acculturation, STEM education equity, science teacher training, and the impact of technology on learning. He has collaborated extensively with organizations like the Nature Notes Program to foster global educational exchanges. Zhou has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles across Education, Social Sciences, and Neuroscience, though his primary focus remains on improving educational equity and intercultural competence in academic environments.
His work addresses systemic barriers faced by non-native students, including language barriers, classroom participation dynamics, and systemic discrimination. Recent studies investigate the psychological impact of microaggressions on international students and strategies to enhance their sense of belonging. Zhou also explores innovations in science education through inquiry-based methods and technology integration.
Research highlights include groundbreaking work on Chinese international students' academic transitions, reciprocal learning models between Canadian and Chinese schools, and the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields in China. Despite neuroscience studies on Alzheimer's drug candidates, his primary contributions lie in advancing inclusive pedagogical practices for diverse student populations.
