George Wurzbach serves as a Specialist Professor in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at Monmouth University, where he teaches music theory, composition, and technology. Described by Performing Songwriter Magazine as "A welcome mix of wit, wisdom, and wonder," his songs have been recorded by Tom Paxton, The Kingston Trio, and David Wilcox, with his Paxton collaboration featured on the Grammy nominated album Comedians and Angels.
Holding an M.A. from Hunter College, Wurzbach's creative practice spans musical theater composition—including Roasting Alice and Twelfth Night staged at Monmouth's Woods Theater—and current work on Andy and Leo, a musical adaptation of Shaw's Androcles and the Lion. He actively performs as a New York-based sideman and session player, occasionally accompanying Melanie.
His accolades include:
- Kerrville New Folk Award (1995)
- BackStage Magazine Bistro Award for music comedy trio Modern Man
Professor Wurzbach instructs core curriculum courses including Music Theory I-IV, Songwriting I-II, Group Piano, and the Blue Hawk House Band, integrating professional artistry with academic instruction to cultivate student musicianship across classical, contemporary, and theatrical domains.
