معرفی
George Szatmari is an Associate Professor at the Department of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of site-specific recombination in bacteria and bioremediation processes involving pesticide-degrading microorganisms. He has mentored several graduate students and leads research on Xer recombinase systems.
- B.Sc. from Concordia University
- Ph.D. under Dr. Michael DuBow at McGill University
- Postdoctoral work with Dr. David Sherratt in Scotland
- Head of Graduate Studies since 1995
His research explores:
- Site-specific recombination systems (XerC/D, XerS, XerH)
- Chromosome dimer resolution mechanisms
- Dif site recognition and cleavage patterns
- Evolution of recombinase systems in pathogenic bacteria
- Environmental bioremediation applications
Publications demonstrate expertise in bacterial genetic stability, tyrosine recombinase function, and novel DNA cleavage mechanisms. His work spans disciplines including molecular biology, infectious disease research, and microbiology.
