Dr. George O. White III is a Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Michigan-Flint's School of Management, and Core Faculty in the International and Global Studies Program. He holds affiliate roles as Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Asian Institute of Management (Philippines) and Visiting Professor at NIDA Business School (Thailand). His academic journey includes degrees from the University of Alabama (B.A. History, 1995), Western Michigan University Cooley Law School (J.D., 2001), Emory University (LL.M. International Commercial Law, 2002), and the University of Texas at El Paso (MBA, 2006; Ph.D. International Business, 2008).
Dr. White's research focuses on how legal/regulatory environments and corruption influence multinational enterprise (MNE) strategies in Southeast Asia. His work spans MNE nonmarket strategies, legal institutional impacts, and cooperative contracting. Ongoing projects include multi-year studies in the Philippines and Thailand, supported by extensive fieldwork with MNE executives. His research appears in journals such as Journal of World Business, Journal of International Management, and North Carolina Journal of Law & Commercial Regulation.
He serves on editorial boards for eight journals, including Journal of World Business and Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and is a Guest Editor for special issues on geopolitical strategy challenges. Awards include the Win Cooper II Faculty Excellence Award and multiple teaching accolades. Dr. White has advised governments and MNEs in China, served as an Economic Adviser in Shijiazhuang, and held visiting academic roles in Thailand, the Philippines, and China. His professional memberships include the Strategic Management Society and Academy of International Business.
