George Michael is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, a position he has held since 2003. Previously, he served as Reader in Inorganic Chemistry (2001–2002), Lecturer (1998–2001), Research Officer (1996–1998), and Experimental Officer/Senior Experimental Officer (1993–1996). He also held a Royal Society/STA of Japan Research Fellowship in Japan (1992–1993). His research focuses on innovative reactor design, green chemistry, spectroscopy, and photochemistry. He leads the Photo-Electro Group at Nottingham, with a homepage at nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/photoelectro.
His work spans advanced chemical manufacturing techniques, including continuous processes using photo-, electro-, and thermal methods, as well as studies on supercritical fluids and noble gas complexes. He has pioneered ultrafast vibrational spectroscopy for reaction monitoring.
- Awards: Over 20+ honors, including the Norman Sheppard Award (2020), UNIDO Bronze Award (2018), and Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award (2008–2013).
- Grants/Advising: No specific grants listed; however, his extensive career indicates sustained research funding. No advisees listed in provided texts.
His contributions bridge fundamental chemistry with industrial applications, emphasizing sustainability and novel analytical methods.
