George Koutsouris is a Senior Lecturer in Education (Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education) at the University of Exeter's School of Education. He holds a PhD in Education from the same institution and has been affiliated with the School since 2014. His roles include Director of Global Engagement (since 2022), leading international partnerships and student recruitment. He teaches on MA programs such as International Education and Special Educational Needs, emphasizing inclusive pedagogies and curriculum design.
Education Background: PhD in Education (University of Exeter, 2014), MEd in SEN (Distinction), and undergraduate degrees in History and Archaeology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has contributed to projects funded by ESRC, British Academy, and Nuffield Foundation, including evaluations of the Silver Stories intergenerational program and the Integrated Group Reading intervention.
Research Interests: Focus on inclusive education, curriculum development, disability rights, and socioemotional learning. He critically examines inclusion in education through lenses of equity, policy analysis, and intersectional identities. Recent projects include exploring disability inclusion in Indonesia/England higher education (British Academy-funded) and gendered mental health in schools.
Awards: 2019 BERJ Editors’ Choice Award for work on RCTs in education. Active in professional activities such as editorial roles, peer review, and international collaborations like the UK-China Humanities Alliance.
Grants & Leadership: Led ESRC-funded Silver Stories evaluation (2021), co-authored UK research structures report (2021), and manages MA International Education program. Current projects include a British Academy-funded disability rights initiative (2024-26).
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in education, disability studies, and media/communications. Active in global initiatives like the HEYTA student conferences organized with Tsinghua University.
