George Kokotos

George Kokotos is a Professor of Organic Chemistry and Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds leadership roles, including Director of the Organic Chemistry Laboratory and membership in international committees such as the European Committee of the Division of Organic Chemistry (EuCheMS). His academic journey includes a BSc (1979) and PhD (1984) from the same university, followed by a career spanning over three decades in academia and research.

His research focuses on the design and synthesis of organic compounds with pharmacological activity, particularly inhibitors of phospholipases A2 for treating inflammation, neurological disorders, and cancer. Additional areas include organocatalysis, lipidomics using high-resolution mass spectrometry, and autotaxin inhibitors. Collaborations span global institutions, including the University of California San Diego, University of Washington, and industry partners like Pharmathen and ProActina.

He has organized numerous international conferences and serves on editorial boards for journals such as Current Organic Chemistry and Molecules. His work bridges organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and biological applications, emphasizing drug discovery and enzyme inhibition mechanisms.
