George H. Perkins

Dr. George H. Perkins is a Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He also holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Medical Dosimetry and Radiation Therapy and Technology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions. He serves as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of the Physicians Referral Service and its Administrative Services at MD Anderson.

Dr. Perkins is a clinician and researcher specializing in breast cancer, with a strong emphasis on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), patient-reported outcomes, outcomes analysis, and quality of care. His research focuses on improving standards of care through patient-centered, cost-effective interventions, including the development of a prospective HRQOL instrument and leadership in an NCI R01-funded phase III randomized trial.

His specific clinical and research interests include breast cancer during pregnancy, male breast cancer, breast cancer in young and African American women, inoperable and recurrent breast cancer, and atypical presentations of the disease.

Dr. Perkins has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Best Doctor Award (since 2005), Top Doctor Award (since 2007), Patient Choice Award (since 2012), Delclos Excellence in Teaching Award, MD Anderson Outstanding Educator Award, and two NIH National Research Service Awards.

Dr. Perkins is actively involved in mentoring and education, reflected in his teaching awards and roles within MD Anderson’s academic programs. He holds leadership positions in institutional committees, including the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and the Institutional Audit Committee. He also contributes to national and international efforts through memberships in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, International Society for Quality of Life Research, and the International Psycho-Oncology Society. His work is supported by competitive grants, including an NCI R01 award.

He is a member of the Psychosocial Behavioral and Health Services Research Core and the Patient Reported Outcomes Core at MD Anderson, contributing to interdisciplinary research teams focused on improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
