George A. Bermann is the Walter Gellhorn Professor of Law and Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law at Columbia Law School, where he has been a full-time faculty member since 1975. He is also affiliated with the School of Law at Sciences Po in Paris and the MIDS Masters Program in International Dispute Settlement in Geneva. Bermann founded the Columbia Journal of European Law and the European Legal Studies Center, and serves as director of the Center for International Commercial & Investment Arbitration.

Bermann is a leading authority in international and comparative law, with expertise in transnational litigation and arbitration, European Union law, and WTO dispute resolution. His work spans commercial and investment disputes across sectors like energy, intellectual property, and telecommunications. He actively serves as an international arbitrator and expert witness, and his research informs policy through roles like chair of the Global Advisory Board of the New York International Arbitration Center.
Scientific awards include honorary doctorates from three international institutions for his contributions to legal scholarship. Additionally, Bermann co-authored the UNCITRAL Guide to the New York Convention, co-edits the American Review of International Arbitration, and is a founding member of the ICC Court of Arbitration governing body.
