Georg Schaur is the Leigh Burch III Economics Professor and Haslam Family Faculty Fellow at the University of Tennessee's Department of Economics. His research focuses on applied econometrics, international trade, and the structural impacts of trade policies on supply chains, firm behavior, and environmental outcomes. He holds a PhD in Economics from Purdue University (2007), an M.S. in Economics from Purdue (2003), and a Bachelor's in Economics from Albert-Ludwigs-University in Germany (2002).
His research interests emphasize understanding how firms organize supply chains across sectors, the effects of trade disruptions and policy uncertainty, and the interplay between trade, environment, and health. Recent work explores tariff volatility, transit systems' impact on trade, and the carbon emissions implications of offshoring.
His publications span over two decades, addressing topics like trade facilitation, export promotion policies, and the role of transportation in global trade. Key themes include quantifying trade barriers, assessing policy effectiveness, and analyzing the socio-economic consequences of globalization. He has contributed to journals in international trade, development economics, and environmental policy.
