Dr. Georg Mildenberger is the Acting Director of the Heidelberg Centre for Social Investment (CSI) since January 2022 and has led its research department since 2009. He holds a Dr. phil. from the Technical University of Darmstadt (2003). His research focuses on social innovation, philanthropy, impact measurement, and civic engagement, with empirical studies on civil society organizations and transdisciplinary knowledge transfer. He has managed projects like Caring Communities, ITISS, and the Social Impact Readiness Index (SIRI), and secured third-party funding. He is affiliated with Heidelberg University’s Max-Weber-Institute of Sociology and serves on multiple advisory boards, including the INTRA Lab and the Institute for Work and Technology.
Education: PhD in Sociology (2003, TU Darmstadt); MA in Philosophy and Political Science (University of Tübingen). Previous roles include Senior Researcher at Tübingen’s International Center for Ethics (IZEW) and project management at Nürtingen University of Applied Sciences.
Research interests emphasize methodological advancements in impact assessment and societal innovation. He coordinates the CSI’s transdisciplinary initiatives and contributes to policy-relevant studies like the Evaluation of Baden-Württemberg’s Equal Opportunities Act. Active in professional networks such as the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) and the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP).
