Georg Luebeck is an Affiliate Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington's College of Arts & Sciences and a Professor Emeritus at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Herbold Computational Biology Program. His research focuses on modeling multi-stage carcinogenesis, integrating theoretical physics principles to understand cancer development influenced by environmental and genetic factors. He explores cancer screening optimization, age-related epigenetic drift, and the link between tissue aging and cancer.
Dr. Luebeck holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Washington (1986), an MS from the same institution (1983), and a Diplom in Physik (equivalent to an MS) from the University of Tübingen (1982). His work bridges cancer biology and population sciences, developing mathematical models for cancers in organs like the colon, lung, and pancreas. At Fred Hutch, he leads studies on cancer incidence trends and screening impacts through the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC).
His research emphasizes translating biological processes into predictive models to inform public health strategies, such as optimizing screening guidelines to reduce cancer burden. While no specific awards are listed, his contributions to cancer modeling are widely recognized in academic and clinical circles.
