Geoffrey Reiter, PhD is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Literature at Lancaster Bible College (LBC), holding the dual role of Associate Chair of the Arts & Sciences Department. He previously served as Associate Professor and English Program Coordinator at The Baptist College of Florida. Dr. Reiter earned his PhD in English from Baylor University and an MA in Church History from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, alongside a BA in English from Nyack College.
His research focuses on intersections between theology and genre fiction, particularly horror, fantasy, and science fiction. He explores how biblical themes inform cultural analysis and vice versa, emphasizing the defamiliarization of Scripture through literature and media. His scholarly work spans studies in Arthur Machen, H.P. Lovecraft, George MacDonald, and C.S. Lewis, alongside analyses of modern sci-fi and horror narratives.
Dr. Reiter teaches courses such as LIT 101 (Poetry/Fiction/Drama), LIT 305 (Science Fiction), and HUM 422 (Christian Perspectives on Fairy Tales). He is also an associate editor at the Christ and Pop Culture website, contributing to the critical engagement of faith and contemporary culture.
His publications include over twenty academic articles in journals like 𝐽𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝐷𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎 𝑆𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑠 and 𝑅𝑒𝑛𝑎𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒, alongside creative works in 𝑃𝑒𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑟𝑎 and 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑚𝑠 magazines. Though no formal awards are listed, his interdisciplinary approach bridges literary criticism with theological reflection.
As an educator and writer, Reiter emphasizes the redemptive value of creative works, stating, “We need no justification than that for studying them” (Hebrews 10:23). His teaching and writing continue to explore how faith interacts with imaginative storytelling across genres.
