Geoffrey Evans

Professor Geoffrey Evans is an Honorary Professor in the School of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) at the University of Newcastle. He has over 30 years of research experience in multiphase systems, focusing on free surface phenomena, bubble-particle interactions, fluid mechanics, and industrial applications such as mineral processing and water treatment.

Education: PhD and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Newcastle.

Research Interests: Multiphase flow dynamics, interfacial phenomena, particle technology, mineral processing, and sustainable engineering. His work combines experimental techniques (e.g., PIV, CFD) with theoretical modelling to address industrial challenges like flotation cell design, bubble dispersion, and turbulence effects.

Awards: CSIRO External Medal (1990), John A Brodie Medal (2004), and a Best Paper Award in Multiphase Flow (2014). His research has led to patented technologies in emulsion production and gas dispersion systems.

Teaching & Supervision: Supervised over 60 Honours and 10 PhD students. Involved in curriculum development, including the UniChe program ($1.65M grant). Recognized for postgraduate supervision and IChemE accreditation roles.

Administration: Former Head of Department (1999–2001), Assistant Dean roles, and member of international conference committees. Focus on industry partnerships and sustainable engineering.

Labs & Collaborations: Leads research in multiphase systems at Newcastle, collaborating with industries like CSIRO and ORICA. Active in global initiatives like the Australian Research Council Iron Ore Hub.
