معرفی
Geoffrey D. Bothun is a Professor and Department Chair of Chemical, Biomolecular, and Materials Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. His work bridges bio/nanotechnology, colloidal and interfacial phenomena, and environmentally responsible chemical engineering.
- Research focus: Nanotoxicology, Nanomedicine, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), and SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) for pollutant detection.
- Teaches advanced courses like CHE 550: Bionanotechnology and EGR 450X: Nano Tools, emphasizing hands-on learning and societal implications of nanotechnology.
Research Trends: Recent publications highlight PFAS-membrane interactions, gold nanoparticle-based SERS sensors, and environmental monitoring. Collaborations with institutions like Ohio State University and Brown University are evident.
Scientific Awards:
- 2017 NSF CAREER Award
Grants: Leads NSF-funded projects on magnetic particle imaging and PFAS environmental effects, with collaborations on oil spill remediation and coastal ecology.
Labs & Teams: Directs the Bothun Lab Group, part of the RI NSF EPSCoR and NIEHS Superfund initiatives, focusing on smart therapeutics and environmental pollutant removal.
