Geoffrey Brooks

Professor Geoffrey Brooks is a Professor in the School of Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, where he has held roles including Associate Dean of Research, Head of Mathematics, and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Future Manufacturing). He previously worked at the University of Wollongong, McMaster University, and CSIRO. His research focuses on sustainable mineral processing, steelmaking, aluminum production, materials engineering, and lunar resource utilisation. He has published over 250 papers and won major awards from TMS, AIST, ASM, and IOM3. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK).

• Research Interests: Sustainable mineral processing, hydrogen-based metallurgy, extraterrestrial materials processing, dark matter detection via axion research, and decarbonisation of steel production.

He leads the ARC Steel Innovation Hub and coordinates research in lunar metal casting and vacuum thermal sublimation. His recent grants include projects on hydrogen direct reduction of iron, BOF heat monitoring systems, and sound analysis in steelmaking. Over 59 HDR students have been supervised under his guidance since 2020, focusing on topics like lunar regolith processing, hydrogen DRI production, and critical metal recovery.
