Geoff Whitty

Geoff Whitty was the Founding Global Innovation Chair of Equity and Co-Director of the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education (CEEHE) at the University of Newcastle. His career focused on equity, social justice, and education policy reform. He contributed extensively to understanding how educational structures perpetuate inequality and advocated for equitable access.

His research explored marketization in education, teacher professionalism, and policy sociology. Publications addressed curriculum control, quasi-markets, and social trajectories in schooling systems globally.

Whitty authored influential books including Research and Policy in Education: Evidence, Ideology and Impact and Making Sense of Education Policy. His legacy includes advancing dialogue on educational equity through international networks.
