Geoff Balkman, PhD, L/CPO, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is a certified prosthetist/orthotist actively engaged in advancing prosthetic and orthotic technologies and improving patient care standards.
- Education: PhD in Rehabilitation Science (University of Washington, 2016-2021), MS in Prosthetics and Orthotics (University of Pittsburgh, 2010-2012)
Dr. Balkman's research focuses on developing clinical assessment tools, including physical performance tests and patient-reported outcome measures, at the University of Washington Center on Outcomes Research in Rehabilitation (UWCORR). His work emphasizes mobility evaluation and orthotic device efficacy.
Recent publications highlight his contributions to standardized outcome measures, test-retest reliability studies, and assistive device utilization analysis. Notably, he has developed item banks for mobility assessment and validated tools for lower limb orthosis users.
He collaborates with the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) as principal investigator on pilot grants and serves as faculty in the Master of Prosthetics & Orthotics (MPO) and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs.
