Geo Takach is a full Professor of Communication and Culture at Royal Roads University, where he serves as head of the blended BA in Professional Communication program. His work bridges academic research and public engagement through The Conversation, with recent contributions focusing on environmental communication and cultural narratives.
His research centers on environmental communication with specific expertise in place representation, decolonization narratives, and comedy as social commentary. Takach examines how naming conventions, media portrayals, and humor shape collective identity and reconciliation processes, particularly regarding Indigenous-settler relations in Canada.
His publication trends reveal a consistent focus on environmental storytelling and cultural critique, with recent articles analyzing road renaming for reconciliation and comedy's role in social justice. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary connections between communication studies, environmental humanities, and cultural sociology.
Takach actively secures research funding through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada. His public scholarship extends beyond traditional academic outputs to include documentary films, theatrical productions, and conference presentations aimed at depolarizing resource extraction debates.
As head of the Professional Communication program, he supervises student research while maintaining an active creative practice as an award-winning writer and filmmaker. His work with Indigenous communities focuses on creating 'ethical spaces of engagement' through narrative reframing.
