معرفی
Associate Professor Genevieve Wilkinson is a faculty member at the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She teaches in the areas of intellectual property law, human rights, technology law and international law. Her academic career is complemented by extensive legal practice experience, including work in intellectual property litigation and international arbitration.
Dr Wilkinson's research focuses on the intersections between trade mark law and human rights, with particular attention to the impact of tobacco plain packaging on children's human rights and the role of legal technology in addressing human rights implications of counterfeiting. Her work spans multiple disciplines including intellectual property law, human rights, environmental law, and technology regulation.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong trend toward examining how intellectual property frameworks interact with human rights obligations, particularly in public health contexts. Her work on tobacco plain packaging, e-cigarette regulation, and coral reef protection demonstrates how legal frameworks can be designed to respect both trade obligations and fundamental human rights. She has also made significant contributions to understanding the legal implications of emerging technologies, particularly the Internet of Things and microbial-based therapies for environmental restoration.
Dr Wilkinson has been actively involved in policy submissions to government bodies including the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and the Department of Home Affairs. Her professional experience includes being a barrister admitted in New South Wales (called to the bar in 2008), commencing legal practice in 2003 at Freehills in intellectual property litigation, and working in litigation and international arbitration for Olswang in London before returning to Sydney.
