Dr. Genevieve Lennon is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship. Her research focuses on police law, counter-terrorist policy, accountability mechanisms, and human rights compliance. She holds a PhD and LLM from the University of Leeds and has held academic roles at the University of Strathclyde and University of Dundee. Lennon has secured over $975,000 in grants, including leadership on a five-country UK Research Council project on police accountability.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Law (2011), an LLM (2007), and degrees in English Literature and Classical Civilisation (2001). She has advised parliamentary committees and served on government reviews, including chairing the Advisory Board for the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner.
Research interests prioritize legal accountability frameworks, governance of police powers, and human rights impacts of counter-terrorism measures. Recent work analyzes stop-and-search practices, non-jury trials in Northern Ireland, and data-driven policing reforms across Europe.
Awards include the British Society of Criminology's Best Article Prize (2015) and the BPP Prize for Torts (2006). She edits Current Issues in Criminal Justice and serves on editorial boards for Criminology & Criminal Justice. Lennon has organized major conferences on counter-terrorism law and authored/co-authored over 50 publications, including the 2024 Palgrave book Governing Police Stops Across Europe.
