Dr. Gene Preuss is an Associate Professor in the Department of History, Humanities and Languages at the University of Houston-Downtown. His teaching and research focus on Texas Educational History and the experiences of minorities in education, spanning topics like Texas history, the U.S. South, American West, Mexican-American history, and African-American history.

His research explores Texas educational reforms, particularly through works such as To Get a Better School System (2009) and analyses of post-WWII policies like the Gilmer-Aikin Laws.
