Gene Mirus is a Professor in the Department of Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University, part of the Arts and Humanities School. He teaches courses such as DST-101 (Introduction to Deaf Studies), DST-204 (Deaf Culture), and DST-316 (Disability Studies). His scholarly work includes research on sign language communities and ethical research practices, notably a project supported by the Spencer Foundation. He has advised numerous undergraduate students and served on institutional committees, including the Faculty Senate and search committees for academic positions.
Professor Mirus has contributed to interdisciplinary initiatives, such as co-directing the RISE program and participating in the ASLIZED board. His expertise spans Deaf cultural studies, legal discourse, and disability studies. He remains actively engaged in teaching, mentoring, and advancing research in deaf-related fields.
