Gemma Jennison

Gemma Jennison is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). She transitioned from clinical practice in psychiatric care to academia, focusing on mental health education and research. Her work integrates clinical experience with academic inquiry, particularly in men’s mental health within the music industry and high-risk populations.

Qualifications include a BSc Hons in Mental Health Nursing, and PG Certificates in Teaching and Research. She remains clinically active in Birmingham while balancing academic duties.

Research expertise spans men’s mental health, music’s impact on mental health (especially Black-origin music), psychosis, OCD, and systemic frameworks like the Power Threat Meaning approach. She directs a non-profit organization addressing men’s mental health, producing films and delivering workshops. Additional interests include criminal justice system-involved youth and hip hop culture, which she promotes in Bristol.

Professionally, she bridges clinical practice, education, and advocacy, with a focus on marginalized groups and intersectional mental health challenges.
