Gemma Huguet

Gemma Huguet is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), affiliated with the ETSEIB School of Engineering. She specializes in Dynamical Systems and Computational Neuroscience, focusing on oscillatory neural networks, phase-amplitude dynamics, and mathematical models of sleep and thermoregulation. With a PhD from UPC (2008), she held postdoctoral positions at CRM Barcelona, NYU Courant Institute, and John Rinzel's lab at the Center for Neural Science. Her research bridges theoretical mathematics and biological systems, emphasizing neuronal communication mechanisms.

**Research Interests**: Her work explores the role of oscillations in neural communication, phase response curves, and computational models of biological rhythms. She has pioneered methods for analyzing slow-attracting manifolds in limit cycles and phase-amplitude reduction techniques. Key areas include cortical spreading depolarization, sleep-wake cycle dynamics, and perceptual bistability.

**Awards**: She received the prestigious BBVA Foundation Leonardo Grant (2019) for her project on neuronal communication via oscillations. Earlier, she was a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow (2015–2021) and Juan de la Cierva Fellow (2013–2015).

**Teaching**: She teaches advanced courses on differential equations, mathematical models in biology, and dynamical systems at UPC and the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics. Recent lectures include SADEM seminars and Calculus I for engineering students.
