Geir Hestmark is a Professor at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (University of Oslo), holding a Dr. scient. in Biology and Magister Artium in Philosophy. His work bridges ecology, lichenology, and history of science, with particular focus on Ice Age discovery, high-altitude biology, and conservation. He has received the Fægri Prize 2023 and the Freedom of Speech Honors Price (2000). As a Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and leader of its history/philosophy group, he contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship.
His recent publications analyze glacial landforms, lichen symbiosis, and historical climate data. Collaborations span Europe, North America, and South America, reflecting his transnational approach to research.
