University of Hertfordshireمعرفی
Dr. Gbanaibolou Jombo serves as Senior Lecturer in Machine Performance and Structural Integrity at the University of Hertfordshire's School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science. He holds dual accreditation as a UK Chartered Engineer (IMechE) and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AdvanceHE), while leading the MSc Automotive Engineering program and serving on the University Academic Board and Financial Support Strategic Group. His extensive external roles include external examiner positions at London South Bank University, ONCAMPUS Hull, and Nottingham Trent International College, alongside advisory roles in periodic reviews at multiple UK institutions.
His research spans two primary domains: Reliability and Performance of Engineering Systems (encompassing machine hearing, intelligent fault diagnosis, non-destructive evaluation, and quantum sensing) and Noise and Vibration Control (focusing on biomimetic acoustic and mechanical metamaterials). This interdisciplinary work bridges mechanical engineering, materials science, and quantum technologies, with strong emphasis on industrial applications through consultancy partnerships with Ocado Technology, Ocado Engineering, and 3-Sci Ltd.
His publication trends reveal increasing focus on quantum sensing applications (2024-2025), distributed strain sensing systems, and advanced condition monitoring techniques. Recent works demonstrate convergence of traditional mechanical engineering with emerging quantum technologies and AI-driven diagnostics, particularly evident in coaxial cable sensing innovations and acoustic-based predictive maintenance frameworks.

- John Greenlees Findlay Memorial Award (2013)
Actively supervising PhD candidates and serving as external examiner for multiple institutions, Dr. Jombo secures research funding through diverse channels including the DTA3/COFUND Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Fellowship programme and SEPnet collaborations. His current projects include sensor validation for 3-Sci Ltd, silica characterization, thermal conductivity testing, and wind turbine structural health monitoring, reflecting strong industry-academia partnerships.
As Director of the Centre for Engineering Research, he leads the Materials and Structures group with focus on metamaterials development and quantum sensing applications. His team collaborates internationally, including recent teaching engagements at China's Changzhou Institute of Technology, while maintaining active roles in the UK Metamaterials Network and Engineering Council UK.
