Gayle Zydlewski is a Professor and Director of Maine Sea Grant at the University of Maine's School of Marine Sciences. Her research focuses on fish ecology, particularly how environmental conditions influence fish behavior and physiology. She leads studies on sturgeon populations in the Penobscot River and Gulf of Maine, tidal turbine impacts on fish, and diadromous fish migration patterns using acoustic technologies.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Maine
Research Interests: Integrating behavior and physiology to assess environmental impacts on fish populations. Current projects include:
- Presence/distribution of Atlantic/shortnose sturgeon
- Acoustic tracking of fish aggregations
- Tidal turbine effects on fish behavior
- Shortnose sturgeon spawning dynamics
- Hydroacoustic monitoring of migratory fish
Labs/Teams: Directs the Zydlewski Lab (website: Lab) focused on applied marine research for resource management.
