Gayle Brandeis is an Affiliate Faculty member in the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Antioch University. She is a multifaceted author known for works such as Drawing Breath: Essays on Writing, the Body, and Loss and The Art of Misdiagnosis, which explore themes of creativity, identity, and personal narrative. Her writing has appeared in prominent publications like The New York Times, The Guardian, and O, The Oprah Magazine.
- Education: BA in Poetry and Movement: Arts of Expression, Meditation and Healing from the University of Redlands; MFA in Creative Writing/Fiction from Antioch University.
Her research and creative work focus on interdisciplinary intersections of creative writing, memoir, and the body, often addressing psychological and emotional dimensions. She has received numerous awards, including the Columbia Journal Creative Nonfiction Prize and recognition in The Best American Essays.
As a mentor, Gayle emphasizes both technical rigor and imaginative exploration, offering extensive line edits and guidance to help students refine their literary voice. She was previously the Inlandia Literary Laureate (2012-2014) and resides in Highland Park, IL.
