Gayatri Patel is a Lecturer in Law at Aston Business School, Aston University. She serves as Programme Director for Law and Law with Management programmes, teaching modules like International Human Rights Law and Legal Skills. Active in outreach, she organizes conferences like the St Philips Chambers Conference and Access to Professions Conference. She sits on the University Disciplinary Panel and Aston Business School Ethics Committee, and is an external examiner for LLB/LLM programmes at two universities.
Previously, she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Leicester (2010–2014) and a Teacher in Law at an Independent Sixth Form Grammar School (2009–2010). Her research focuses on UN human rights mechanisms, particularly the Universal Periodic Review process, examining women’s, children’s, and LGBTI rights. She welcomes PhD proposals in these areas.
Gayatri has received multiple teaching awards including 'Most Influential Academic' (2015) and 'Best Personal Tutor' (2016). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of professional bodies like the Society of Legal Scholars and Society of Socio-Legal Studies Association.
Her research outputs critique UPR process efficacy, cultural relativism debates, and international human rights enforcement. Recent activities include invited talks on blockchain in land registration and widening participation in higher education.
