معرفی
Gavin Turrell is an Honorary Professor at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS). His research focuses on the intersection of urban environments and health inequities, with an emphasis on how neighborhood characteristics influence physical activity, obesity, mental wellbeing, and aging populations. He leads the HABITAT longitudinal study, examining the effects of built environments on health outcomes in mid-to-older-aged adults.
Key research areas include walkability, greenspace accessibility, neighborhood disadvantage, and the mediating role of physical activity in health disparities. Turrell collaborates internationally, particularly in Brazil, exploring urban design impacts on transportation behaviors and health.
His work addresses social determinants of health, including studies on loneliness, housing quality, and the inclusion of underrepresented elderly populations in research. He is open to supervising PhD/Masters students on topics like neighborhood determinants of health, healthy aging, and environmental justice.
