Gavin Thomas is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Worcester's School of Sport and Exercise Science since 2010. He holds an MSc in Sports Coaching Science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). His research focuses on sport science applications, particularly women's experiences in strength and conditioning and combat sports physiology. He has contributed to over 38 publications, including studies on kyokushin karate training and youth football dynamics. Thomas has received awards for teaching excellence in 2020 and 2018.
Education: MSc Sports Coaching Science (UoW), PGCert Learning and Teaching (UoW), BSc Sport and Exercise Science (UoW). Certifications include ISAK Anthropometrist and Level 3 Personal Training.
Research Interests: Gender dynamics in S&C, applied sport science in martial arts, and youth sports behavior. Over 15 peer-reviewed articles highlight his work on aging populations' physical safety, sociology in sport education, and training frequency efficacy in HIIT.
Award-winning educator with grants supporting interdisciplinary initiatives and community programs like the Fall Safe training for seniors. Collaborates with institutions globally, including research on NBA referees' heart rate responses and minimalist footwear biomechanics.
