Gavin Salam is a Professor of Theoretical Physics and Royal Society Research Professor at the University of Oxford's Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics. He holds a BA and PhD from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Royal Society. His research focuses on Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), with applications to high-energy particle colliders such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Key areas include Higgs boson studies, searches for new particles, precision measurements, and heavy-ion collisions.
Dr. Salam has held roles including Staff Theoretical Physicist at CERN (2010–2018), Senior Research Scholar at Princeton University (2010–2012), and postdoctoral positions at CERN, INFN Milan, and the Cavendish Laboratory. His educational background includes a PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory (1993–1996) and undergraduate studies at King's College, University of Cambridge (1990–1993).
His research interests span theoretical particle physics and collider QCD, with contributions to understanding fundamental particles and interactions. Awards include the Royal Society Research Professorship and an ERC Advanced Grant for the PanScales project.
