Professor Gavin Flood is a Professor of Hindu Studies and Comparative Religion at the University of Oxford, serving as Academic Director of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. He previously held positions at the Universities of Wales (Lampeter) and Stirling. He earned his degree in Religious Studies and Social Anthropology from Lancaster University.
His research focuses on medieval Hindu texts (particularly Shiva traditions), comparative religion, and phenomenology of religion. Current projects include studies on holiness and the Sanskrit Netra Tantra text. He is General Series Editor for the Oxford History of Hinduism.
Awarded Fellowship of the British Academy (2014), his work bridges religious studies and interfaith scholarship. He oversees academic initiatives at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, fostering interdisciplinary research.
