Mag. phil. Gautam Liu is a Lecturer in Hindi at the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University, since 2007. Prior to this, he taught Hindi at the University of Vienna (2000–2007), where he earned a diploma in Indology with distinction. His work bridges linguistic and literary history, focusing on Hindi-Urdu linguistic debates, Progressivism (Pragativād), and the Naī Kahānī (New Story) literary movement. He co-authored the influential textbook Hindi Bolo (2010–2012) and has published peer-reviewed articles on South Asian literary and linguistic themes.
His current research explores the depiction of the divine name in Tulsidas's Rāmacaritamānasa, reflecting his sustained engagement with South Asian cultural heritage. Based at Heidelberg's South Asia Institute, his work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to transcultural studies.
