Gary Packham is the Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Enterprise & Entrepreneurship and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at Anglia Ruskin University. He leads over 100 academic staff and oversees programs for 5,500+ students, driving initiatives like degree apprenticeships for Barclays and the UK Ministry of Defence. Under his leadership, the Faculty achieved REF world-leading research status (2021, 2014) and institutional awards including the TES Entrepreneurial University of the Year (2014). Previously, he headed the Glamorgan Business School and directed the Centre for Enterprise, managing EU/Welsh Government projects.
He holds a PhD in Small Business Management (2001) and a BA in Business Studies (First Class Honours, 1997) from the University of Glamorgan.
His research explores SME development dynamics, including entrepreneurial education's impact on start-ups, knowledge transfer, e-commerce adoption, and internationalization. Secondary interests include e-learning pedagogy and peer-assisted support frameworks. Recent work analyzes SME competitiveness through data-driven strategies, innovation barriers, and workforce retention.
Gary secured £7.4M+ in grants, including:
- £5M for Women Adding Value to the Economy (ESF, 2012)
- £6M for Elevate Cymru regional development (ESF, 2011)
- £73K for Essex innovation impact measurement (2013)
- £60K for IP commercialisation in social enterprises (IPO, 2012)
