Dr. Gary Oppenheim is a Lecturer in Psychology at Bangor University's School of Psychology & Sport Science. He specializes in the cognitive science of language production and learning, using computational modeling and experimental methods. His research explores how language interacts with motor processes and investigates dialect differences between UK and US English. He joined Bangor in 2013 after postdoctoral work at UC San Diego and holds an adjunct position at Rice University.

Research Focus: His work examines language production mechanisms, word learning, bilingualism, and inner speech. Recent studies include cross-linguistic metaphor processing in bilinguals, phonemic learning in infants, and lexical competition dynamics.
Advising & Grants: Supervises postgraduate projects on language production and bilingualism. Research supported by studies on incremental learning and cognitive mechanisms.
