Gary Eller is an Instructor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He teaches online and classroom courses such as Religions of the West, History of Christianity, and Religion in America. His academic career includes prior teaching roles at Vanderbilt Divinity School, Rhodes College, and Potomac State College of West Virginia University, with a focus on Historical Studies through Creighton University and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
Dr. Eller’s expertise includes Religion and Personality studies, Church History, and American theology. His doctoral dissertation at Vanderbilt University examined 18th-century theologian Jonathan Edwards through a psychobiographical lens. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and reviews on Edwards and broader theological topics.
Active in denominational leadership, he serves as President of the Omaha Presbyterian Seminary Foundation (since 2007) and on the Committee on Theological Education for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He is also ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and has served congregations across Nebraska and Iowa.
He is a member of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the American Society of Church History (ASCH). His work bridges historical theology, religious studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding religious thought.
