Gary David Housley is Scientia Professor at the University of New South Wales in the Faculty of Medicine & Health. As Director of the Translational Neuroscience Facility in the School of Biomedical Sciences, his research spans auditory neuroscience, neuroprotection, and gene therapy. His program investigates molecular and cellular physiology in neural systems, particularly cochlear adaptation mechanisms and therapeutic interventions for hearing loss and brain injury.
Research interests include cochlear implant enhancement, gene electrotransfer techniques, purinergic signaling in hearing, noise-induced hearing loss mechanisms, and stroke pathophysiology. His work bridges fundamental neuroscience with clinical translation.
Recent publications focus on advanced gene delivery systems, ion channel mechanisms in neural injury, and metabolic regulation in neurological disorders. His team has developed novel electroporation techniques for targeted DNA/RNA therapeutics.
Professor Housley leads extensive research collaborations and training initiatives in translational neuroscience.
