Gary Copeland Lilley is a Lecturer in the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Western Colorado University. He is a poet with eight published books, including The Bushman’s Medicine Show (2017) and The Hog Killing (2018), and has contributed to notable journals like Best American Poetry 2014, Willow Springs, and African American Review. As Artistic Director of the Port Townsend Writers Conference, he plays a key role in literary community engagement.
Research & Creative Interests: Lilley specializes in contemporary poetry, blending themes of Southern and Pacific Northwest cultural identity with African American literary traditions. His work emphasizes narrative voice, historical memory, and ecological motifs.
