Gary Barton is a Professor in the Department of Art at Brigham Young University (BYU), serving as a Full-Time Faculty member in Studio. He has held administrative roles including Chair of the Department of Art, Associate Dean for the College of Fine Arts and Communications, and director of numerous study abroad and collaborative programs. His teaching focuses on printmaking and advanced studio courses.
Barton holds an MFA from The Ohio State University, where he received a University Fellowship. His artistic practice emphasizes two-dimensional media such as painting, printmaking, and mixed media. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Contemporary Art Space Chester (UK), Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, and venues in Australia, England, and Italy.
He is actively involved in BYU’s facilities and resources, including the 2D Stockroom, Design Print Lab, and Art Resource Center (ARC). His contributions extend to experiential learning initiatives, fostering collaborations between BYU and global institutions.
