He joined SDU in 2019, previously serving as Head of Studies at Roskilde University. With nearly 30 years of expertise, his research focuses on aquatic ecology, biostatistics, ecotoxicology, and environmental science across diverse habitats like lakes, coastal oceans, tidal marshes, and mangroves.
Education: B.Sc. in Biology and Statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (1980s); Ph.D. in Marine Ecology from Boston University (1990s). Postdoctoral work at Odense University before joining Roskilde University in 1995. He later moved to SDU’s Department of Nature and Environment in 2016.
Research Interests: Salt marsh ecosystems, nanoparticle toxicity, benthic community dynamics, and climate mitigation strategies. His work bridges ecological theory with applied conservation, emphasizing policy-relevant outcomes.
Publications: Recent work includes studies on citizen perceptions of climate mitigation, Nordic salt marsh conservation, and carbon sequestration in Scandinavian soils. His research often integrates biogeochemical processes with socio-ecological systems.
Labs/Teams: Aqua-NbS (Nature-based Solutions cluster) and SDU Climate Cluster. Active in EU Horizon projects like ARCADIA and SCC Elite Centre for Aquatic NbS.
