Garry Walter

Professor Garry Walter AM is an Honorary Professor affiliated with the Northern Clinical School, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Sydney. He holds roles in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, with previous professorial appointments at Dalhousie University (Canada) and Tel Aviv University (Israel). His career includes leadership positions such as Director of Thomas Walker Hospital and Medical Director of NSW/ACT Doctors’ Health Advisory Service. He served as Editor of Australasian Psychiatry (2001–2013) and International Editor-at-Large for Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2008–2018).

Research focuses on mood disorders, psychiatric stigma, medical education, and ethics. He has authored nearly 400 papers and presented globally. Key honors include the RANZCP College Citation (2009) and AM (2012) for contributions to psychiatry and publishing. His work bridges clinical practice, education, and policy, emphasizing ethical dilemmas and mental health advocacy.
