Dr. Garrett W. Tate is a Lecturer in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences from Princeton University (2014) and dual B.S./B.A. degrees in Earth Science and Mathematics from Rice University (2009).
His research focuses on structural geology and tectonics with emphasis on:
- Convergent mountain belt dynamics
- Fold-thrust belt kinematics
- Subsurface deformation and surface process interactions
- Structural interpretation of seismic data
- Geologic mapping techniques
Research projects span Timor, Southern Appalachians, and New Zealand's Hikurangi Margin. Publications demonstrate methodologies integrating field mapping, seismic interpretation, thermochronology, and geomorphology.
Teaching includes courses in Dynamic Earth, Structural Geology, Applied Structural Geology, and Natural Disasters. Professional software experience includes StructureSolver, Move, and Petrel.
