Garrett Bruen is a Professor in the Liberal Arts Department at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Claremont University, an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. in International Affairs from the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior roles include Research Assistant at Claremont Graduate University (2009–2010) and Teaching Assistant roles at San Francisco State University and the University of Colorado.
His research focuses on modernist literature, particularly the works of Ford Madox Ford and Joseph Conrad. Key interests include narrative techniques, comparative literature, and the intersection of literature with themes like detection and urban geography. Recent publications explore Ford’s modernist turn, narrative structures in The Soul of London, and comparative analyses with Proust and detective fiction.
He has been recognized with the Claremont Graduate University School of Humanities Fellowship (2007–2009) and the Toery-Kohler Memorial Endowment Fellowship (2008). Bruen is affiliated with organizations such as the Joseph Conrad Society, Ford Madox Ford Society, and Modern Language Association.
