Her research program centers at the intersection of feminist of color theory, Chicana/Latina feminist perspectives, and pedagogies of care, creating nuanced approaches to diversity and inclusion in teacher education. Dr. Reyes investigates how teachers can re-envision their roles to become part of support networks for culturally and linguistically diverse students, with particular attention to the intimate and interpersonal aspects of teaching. Her work examining interactions between Latina mothering students and their teachers along the U.S./Mexico border has revealed important insights about culturally responsive pedagogy born from Latinx community knowledge. She further expands traditional notions of cultural diversity by integrating gender and sexuality studies in education, demonstrating how truly culturally relevant curriculum must account for the race-gendered-classed dimensions of students' lives.
Analysis of Dr. Reyes' publication trajectory reveals a consistent focus on justice-oriented education, with increasing attention to collective approaches and networks of care. Her recent scholarship demonstrates sophisticated integration of intersectional frameworks, particularly examining how care operates within educational settings serving marginalized populations. A notable trend is her evolution from individual teacher practices toward examining communal and institutional support structures necessary for sustainable care in education. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, maintaining relevance to current educational challenges including anti-CRT legislation and the need for diversifying the teaching profession.
Dr. Reyes is an active member of professional organizations including the Professors of Curriculum Honorary Society (since 2020), American Educational Studies Association (since 2011), and American Educational Research Association (since 2010). Her academic service includes significant leadership roles that demonstrate her commitment to shaping the field of curriculum studies and social justice education.
As an educator, Dr. Reyes teaches courses including EDT 190, EDT 205, EDT 225, EDT 610, EDL 621, EDT 246, EDT 284, and EDT 311. Her teaching appears to directly connect with her research interests in culturally responsive pedagogy and social justice education.
